Prague Gives Out Free Lunches to Hightlight "Food Wastage"
Often known as the city of hundred spires and a jewel in the crown of Eastern Europe, Prague is living up to its reputation as one of the most inspirational cities in the world.
If you believe in deep love and passion for humanity, then you will certainly appreciate the efforts of Czech group Zachraň jídlo. As a part of their mission called “Feast for a Thousand”, the group have satiated the hunger of many as well, drawn attention to the problem of massive food wastage.
The group gave out 1,000 servings of vegetable curry to people out in the crowd who made a long line at the bottom of Wenceslas Square. The food came from businesses that planned to throw it away despite being perfectly usable. It was a very healthy mix of curry containing tomatoes, garlic, onions, carrots, cauliflower, eggplant, chickpeas, ginger, potatoes, lentils, zucchini, and white squash, salt and curry oil. The curry was served in porcelain bowls along with wooden spoons to avoid any plastic waste.
People across all social classes came to get the food, consisting of the elderly, homeless, students etc. There were a few suggestions made by the guests on how to avoid food waste such as getting products closer to the expiration date and eating it on the same day. This means the product will not expire in the store, making it unsellable.
